Computers? Monica does not compute

Take home exams are the best! Well until I'm reminded that I fail at all most things involving modern technology.

Ok one more semester to go... I can make it as long as uni doesn't re-do their system again. =P

They may tell us to turn off our phones but they will never take away our exam notes!

Dear Exam Invigilators,

Please ensure this never happens again.

And that my friends is the sound of one shocked to silence law student and the almost mass heart attack of every law student within a 3 tables radius.

Invigilators you have generally been super great. You get everyone in and start the exam on time and you're there quick smart when I put my hand up for a new script book. When you pull a script book away from a student who won't put their pen down when told I clap for you in my head for preventing such injustice. But for the sake for the sanity of my fellow law students please know your stuff and never again tell a law student to put his notes away for an open book exam because:

a) We're stressed enough as it is... don't make us panic as we sit down;

b) Those four extra pens we bring into the exam may be fashioned into a weapon if you try to pry our notes from us. Those notes are our security blanket and life jacket during these crazy times. They keep us from drowning in the stormy seas of law school. We would trade our first born for them; and

c) We're law students, the cohort most likely to find a legal rule that allows us to sue you for giving us a heart attack right before an exam.

Yep I should totally be studying but this had to be done. Life is hilarious. Ok fun times over... back to study!

Books about Town

My facebook newsfeed has been filing up with lovely photos from friends on making their way through Europe whether its the family holiday (exchanging Melbourne cold for sunny skies), exchange student adventures or going solo travelling. I armchair travel through their travel snaps and am happy that there all having an awesome time even is slightly envious. I think, 'it's ok one day you'll get to that other side of the world too!'

And then this happens... and art + books + park benches + free. Some of my favourite things combine in epic awesomeness! Seriously, it's a park bench in the shape of an open book! I wish I was there in London right now. I'd just wander around, find these benches, sit on them perhaps with a good book to read.

Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie Source: booksabouttown.org.uk
What is happening is that this London summer, i.e. right now, is a public art event launched by the National Literary Trust and Wild in Art with "50 unique BookBench sculptures, designed by local artists and famous names to celebrate London’s literary heritage and reading for enjoyment".

Here are some of my favs:
Mary Poppins by P. L. Travers

It's like a painting!
Samuel Pepy's Diary
The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe by C.S Lewis
I wonder if we'll ever get something like this in Melbourne. I suppose we might not have that same rich literary heritage but reading for fun should always be encouraged!

Books around Town is happening 2 July - 15 September 2014. All images were taken from there webpage at:  http://www.booksabouttown.org.uk/

Previously on X...

Ok so it pretty certain that with my lack of drawing skills I'lll never be a comic book artist. But I'll be happy to read them and watch them adapted on the big screen!

Unless you live somewhere without a local cinema or haven't been near me in the past week, 'So what's up Monica? ...X-men is out this week! eeeeee!', you'll have missed that X-men: Days of Future Past is in cinemas!!

But yes, a comic by yours truly:

You know you're an X-men fan when your even your dad who never grew up with comics knows that X-men is a MARVEL comic. Even if he can't quite get the word right.

And here's the cast back in a photoshoot they did back during Comic-Con. I want James McAvoy's X-men t-shirt. I also like how they've got Ellen Page standing on a box even though she's up the front. That's what I need too. :P

Happy Easter! The greatest story ever told

Here's a scribble I did a while back. It was so long ago that I've forgotten what came first, the bunny or the egg or the nest or the parachute. Either way here you go:

HAPPY EASTER!

but no, as cool as a super parachuting bunny is and  weekend of too much chocolate. There's the other story of Easter.

Jesus. He is risen!

Here done kid documentary form:

Meet my mum

... well actually not really as I couldn't figure out how to draw her so she's just a generic person in this latest comic.

Fun times with an ESL mum.

You might ask why this comic is all on individual pieces of paper rather than the usually neatly ruled comics. Well, that would be because I couldn't redraw panel 1. I just could'nt get my TV face right; kept looking too zombie like. Solution, tear out the panels that look better in the draft and arrange it all together!

Can't wait for season 4!!

E-card

So it's been a while but I finally have gotten around to posting this one. I've had this one on the to post list for a while...

My very first original idea engagement card! And it just goes to show how lazy I have been that in the time taken for someone to plan a wedding I have gotten around to uploading this post.

Go here's the thought process...

In brief: GUY---------------GIRL-------------------BENCH-------------------------RING

In not so brief:
Step 1: Google image search 'boy girl on bench cartoon silhouette'  (silhouete because that's the cheat way for those of limited drawing skills!)
Step 2: Get super distracted at how talented people can make somehing so awesome with one colour
Step 3: Find the perfect staring out into the sunset image
Step 4: Light bulb moment! The sun is round. So is an engagment ring.
Step 5- end: Sketch, scan to photoshop. Add some filter thing as grey lead doesn't scan very well. Then realise that colour would be better. Find yellow paper, print again.

A major unforseen moment was realising I had to draw people sitting down. So in the end they kinda have funny legs instead. :P

Then realise I forgot the Congratulations and I can't write it in as I have the worst handwriting. Find more yellow paper. Print.

TA DA!
